Precise control at Spanish chemical processing plant

Summary
Intelligent IQ3 actuators and Rotork Master Station control centres were installed on a chemical processing plant in Cádiz, Spain.
Overview
The Quimica Puente Mayorga plant, owned by CEPSA, is one of the world’s biggest producers of linear alkyl benzene, as well as paraffins, sulphonic acid and heavy alkylate.
Challenge
Actuators were required to operate gate valves to control the flow of unprocessed fluids, as well as providing Emergency Shutdown (ESD) functionality.
Solution
Over 150 actuators were installed on a double loop system with a Rotork Master Station on a Pakscan control network. A bespoke cabinet was designed and installed with the Rotork Master Station to provide an additional access point to give site operators the ability to open or close valves in the event of an emergency.

Customer Benefits
The customer reduced their wiring costs by using a single twisted pair, rather than having to depend upon an expensive multicore cable.
This was a cost-efficient solution due to the short commissioning time of the product and the increased plant productivity that Pakscan can provide.
With one cabinet acting as an access point to over 240 field devices within a 20 km loop, spacing issues (which control cabinets might otherwise create) were prevented.
