Enabling the Hydrogen Economy with Intelligent Flow Control
Hydrogen is a key pillar in the global transition to low-carbon energy, offering a clean, flexible solution for decarbonising power, transport, and industrial sectors. At Rotork, we support the safe and efficient development of the hydrogen value chain - from production and storage to distribution and end use.
With decades of experience in flow control and automation, Rotork provides robust, intelligent actuation solutions that meet the unique demands of hydrogen applications. Our electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic actuators are engineered for precision and reliability in high-pressure, high-purity, and potentially hazardous environments.
Whether supporting green hydrogen production via electrolysis, managing flow in hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, or enabling safe storage and transport, Rotork technologies help ensure operational safety, regulatory compliance, and long-term performance.
As the hydrogen economy evolves, Rotork is proud to be a trusted partner - delivering future-ready solutions that drive progress toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
Hydrogen is a clean and safe energy carrier that can be used as fuel for power or transportation, or as a feedstock in industry and manufacturing.
Our role in the energy transition - enabling a sustainable future
Hydrogen has been used in industry for many years (for example in refining and ammonia production) and our customers have long relied upon Rotork’s certified products.
Appropriate flow control technology provides safe and reliable operation, operational efficiency, and precise and repeatable control.
- Safe and reliable operation
- Operational efficiency
- Reliability
- Precise and repeatable control
- Emergency Shutdown (ESD) capability
Hydrogen can be dangerous, so explosionproof products (with approvals such as ATEX, CSA, IECEx) must be used in its production, distribution, delivery and usage.
Our latest hydrogen project
Rotork CVL linear process control actuators were provided to a French equipment manufacturer where they now play a critical role within a hydrogen generator. Electrolysis of water is the process of applying an electrical current to water to create hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen production through electrolysis requires extremely precise control; any actuator installed would need to provide accurate control, a fail-safe action and a high-duty cycle. CVL-500 actuators were chosen for their high movement frequency and their quick reactivity, as well as their ATEX IIC certification.
