Employee stories
Christine - Head of Business Development, UK
Engineering has always been about understanding how things work, solving complex challenges and making processes more efficient. Those attributes apply across the board, whether your career is in the technical field or in helping the business to grow.
In fact, they are the driving factors in Christine's career. Head of Business Development – Bifold at Rotork, Christine is excited by opportunities to drive growth by connecting processes – namely strategy and execution.
“I’ve had the chance to evolve commercial strategy while working across functions, geographies and customer groups,” she said. “Seeing the impact of that work is incredibly motivating.”
Christine is particularly proud of the collaborative work done to evolve Rotork’s commercial model and transfer long-standing third-party relationships into selling entities across APAC and the Americas.
“This wasn’t just a sales exercise,” she said. “It required close collaboration across global teams. We managed change while maintaining customer trust. That was only possible because of the collective expertise and commitment of the team.”
Christine’s take on this year’s International Women in Engineering Day theme – #EngineeringIntelligence – is that while technology gives us tools, data, automation and systems, it’s human ingenuity that ensures information is correctly applied.
“Technology can offer incredible insight, but it takes people to interpret that insight, challenge assumptions and translate it into practical action,” she said. “When you get that balance right, you move faster, make smarter decisions and deliver better outcomes.”
Christine’s career has spanned multiple industries, including engineering, manufacturing, retail and consulting, and she says the best advice she can offer is to stay curious, be confident and not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
“The breadth of my career has been one of my biggest strengths,” she said. “It’s taught me how to adapt quickly, understand different business models and bring fresh thinking to new challenges.
“For anyone considering STEM or a commercial role within engineering, I’d also say don’t underestimate the importance of communication and collaboration. The ability to influence, lead and bring people with you is what really drives impact."
