Employee stories
Renee - Service Coordinator, Australia
Renee has always been drawn to roles that allow her to connect people, create efficient processes and solve problems. She’s strongly focused on precision and reliability. While these attributes are essential for engineers, Renee herself holds a different – but equally important – role within Rotork.
Her official title is Queensland (QLD) and New Zealand Service Coordinator. She’s also a mental health first aider, culture champion and health and safety representative – and an example of how non-engineering roles are just as vital as technical roles in the engineering field. She is, you might say, a people engineer.
“I help to ensure both operational success and staff wellbeing,” said Renee. “For example, one of our key clients is based in a remote location. It’s an environment that presents unique challenges, involving complex service scheduling, streamlined site inductions and accommodation for field service technicians.
“By working closely with multiple teams, I help to align processes, improve communication and deliver an efficient, seamless service.”
The #EngineeringIntelligence theme of this year’s International Women in Engineering Day is, to Renee, about combining technology with human ingenuity. “Technology provides data, automation and efficiency,” she said. “Human insight ensures we use that to make practical, adaptable and safe decisions that deliver the results we want.
“I rely on efficient systems and data for planning and coordination. But I also apply judgement based on experience, team feedback and safety considerations. #EngineeringIntelligence means making informed, balanced decisions using both data and critical thinking.”
Renee’s advice to anyone looking at a career in engineering or STEM roles is not to be afraid to explore different pathways.
“You don’t have to be in a technical role to contribute meaningfully,” she said. “Skills such as communication, coordination, problem-solving and understanding people are just as important as technical expertise.
“Ask questions. Seek opportunities. Build confidence. Stay curious and open to learning, development and growth.”
