I’m an apprentice Engineering Fitter, and until last year, I was in full-time education. I started an apprenticeship to gain knowledge and skills outside of the classroom. I enjoy playing chess and exploring places like the Lake District in my spare time.

I applied for an apprenticeship with Rotork as it was an excellent opportunity to gain real-life skills whilst working alongside well-trained engineers.
What does a typical day /week look like for you as an apprentice at Rotork?
I usually start at 6.30 am and depending on where in the workshop I’m working that day, I pick a job number, locate the required parts and start building the product. Once the build is complete, it is then sent off for painting. Over the course of a week, I could build many different products.
What do you enjoy the most in your apprentice role?
I enjoy meeting and working with new people; everyone is friendly and welcoming.
What have you learnt from being an apprentice?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Everyone makes mistakes, and the skills you use to resolve mistakes and how you communicate are important.
How are you supported in the workplace and at college to achieve your qualification?
Many people ensure you understand how to complete tasks and regular check-ups to support you with keeping college work up to date.
What are you looking forward to most in your career at Rotork?
I’m excited to explore all areas in the workshop to give me a broad understanding of all aspects of the business.
