Overview
Rotork modulating electric valve actuators were installed in an efficiency upgrade project at Vogelenzang water treatment plant, Amsterdam.
Challenge
Vogelenzang water treatment plant has a daily water treatment capacity of 180,000 cubic metres. The treatment regime there comprises pre-screening, carbon filtration, ozone injection and sand filtration.
Solution
Reliability problems had arisen with the existing electric actuators on the carbon filtration plant, which were failing to cope with the modulating valve duties required for efficient filtering and backwashing operations.
Result
Rotork Site Services removed the old actuators, installed 100 IQTMPro quarter-turn modulating actuators directly onto the affected butterfly valves and connected to existing power and control cabling.
Customer Benefits
The installation of IQ actuators allowed the plant to deliver safe drinking water to the city of Amsterdam and surrounding areas.
Actuators from the IQ range have data logging capabilities, allowing for improved long-term asset management and the avoidance of the sort of problems the plant had in the past, such as increasing levels of non-performance from the existing actuators.
In the years following installation of the actuators, the customer was supported by Rotork Site Services through inspections three times a year and functional testing.
